Reason #5
Texas can protect its borders better than the federal government
This one doesn't take a lot of explanation. Local government is always more
effective at dealing with local issues.
Texas shares several hundred miles of border with the country of Mexico. After
secession, Texas would share several hundred additional miles of border with
the United States, specifically New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
Texas already has its own military with land, sea, and airborne soldiers. Texas
also has a very active and well-equipped state police. These agencies could
easily provide better border patrol than does the federal government.
As has been recently demonstrated by former Governor Rick Perry, deploying
Texans to the border is the most effective way to control it. Moves by the Obama
administration have encouraged an increase in illegal immigration, most of which
comes across the border in Texas. Nearly 100,000 underage, unaccompanied minors
crossed the US border into Texas in 2014. Only after Rick Perry and others drew
attention to this issue did the flow of illegals slow down. But, the problem
still exists today: the federal goverment is NOT controlling the border. It
must be done at the state level.
